Disablement Technologies and Consulting LLC (DTC) is a certified woman-owned small business that specializes in Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) solutions and ordnance exploitation. DTC’s solutions cover a broad range of threat characterization and C-IED technology such as: diagnostics, access and disablement tools, robotics, mechanical and hand entry tools, and IED threat characterization. In addition to technologies, we improve upon current Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs). Backed by award winning innovation, our team provides subject matter expertise to the C-IED community on matters related to explosive ordnance disposal (EOD)/bomb technician render-safe tools and techniques, explosives and hazardous device forensic science, advanced scientific and engineering principles, training, range safety, and research and development. DTC’s Chief Scientist is the inventor of 14 patented technologies and is the recipient of the 2020 FBI Director’s Award for Excellence in Innovation and seven 2024 FBI Patent Innovation Awards.
Our innovative disruption solutions keep technicians safer by increasing the performance of critical bomb defeat tools. DTC’s improvements in dearmers and mass focusing shaped charges halve the operator’s time downrange and increase disrupter tool effective range by at least 300%. DTC’s Chief Scientist invented the Catenary Advanced Technology (CAT) shaped charge which is the most effective water-driving disrupter to date. We at DTC know how to measure performance metrics and develop test methods to drive the improvement and refinement of disruption technology.
In addition to energetic disrupter systems, we also have an advanced knowledge base in and experience with electronic IED fusing and firing systems. We integrate all aspects of bomb neutralization to include examining the bomb’s internal structure and exploiting the system’s weaknesses. This skill set has led to advancements in electronic diagnostics and wire attack procedures.
Our Company
Incorporated in June 2020, Disablement Technologies and Consulting LLC (DTC) has provided engineering services to the Federal Government serving U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of Justice, and the U.S. Department of Defense. DTC provides subject matter expertise to both Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Public Safety bomb technicians. Our mission is to provide our First Responders and Military personnel with advanced tools and train them to the highest level of proficiency.
Our Team
Dr. Sarah Vabnick is an experienced organic chemist with industry and academic experience. She is DTC’s project manager and regularly communicates with our customers to insure they get the service they deserve.
Dr. Ian Vabnick is a nationally recognized specialist in IED fusing and firing systems, bomb neutralizing technology, and render safe procedures. He is the inventor of 14 patented government technologies, many of which are taught at the Hazardous Devices School (HDS) and are authorized for use by U.S. Military EOD technicians because these tools are published in the Automated Explosive Ordnance Disposal Publication System (AEODOPS). Dr. Vabnick is the author of over 50 Special Technicians Bulletins and other technical publications related to render safe procedures and bomb disposal tools. He served as a Special Agent in the FBI for 24 years and for 18 years as a public safety bomb technician. For 12 years, Dr. Vabnick was an adjunct professor for the HDS and founded, developed, and was the lead instructor for the HDS Advanced Electronics Course. Dr. Vabnick also founded the Research and Prototyping IED Defeat (RAPID) Program; he developed and taught as chief instructor the Advanced Disablement Engineering Technology Seminar (ADETS). In addition, Dr.Vabnick is the co-developer of the ongoing RAPID-X program for knowledge transfer of his inventions. Dr. Vabnick continues to work with the Federal Government on technology for First Responders and EOD personnel.
